Our client, a major automotive manufacturer in the North East is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join their team on a contract basis; there is a possible opportunity to become a permanent member of staff as their project requirements develop over the next 3 to 4 months.
Job Specification:
The Role
- Support all customer manufacturing lines to achieve quality, cost and delivery targets.
- Design, manufacture and commission fixture improvements
- Develop new and improve existing manufacturing processes and equipment
- Support operator TPM and multi – skilled maintenance activities relating to fixtures, tooling and facilities.
- Interface with Press Shop on component improvement activities
- Carry out productivity improvement studies and Kaizen activities
- Identify robust counter measures to customer and internal concerns
- Undertaken a four year apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant discipline
- To be educated to HNC level or equivalent in Mechanical or Production Engineering
- Good understanding of lean manufacturing - 5S, Kaizen, Kanban, Poke-yoke etc.
- Drive and enthusiasm in a team environment
- Ability to develop prototype tooling and fixtures utilising a range of tool room facilities
- A background working in a metal forming manufacturing process is essential.
- A good knowledge / use of AutoCAD 2008 or 2010 (Preferred)
- Contract will be essentially responsibility for Site-wide layout proposals and planning
- Microsoft Project and Office
- Degree or HND

- Experience of JIT, Lean, Kan Ban, DFM & OEE techniques
- At least 5 years’ experience in manufacturing processes and process design / estimation
- Ability to work and produce deliverables within severe time constraints
- Contract will included the need to work at shop floor level as well as well as office-based.
- Manufacturing Engineering tasks at facility line side will also be required.
